Gardening

"The force that through the green fuse drives the flower..." - Dylan Thomas

We spent some time this afternoon tending our modest garden: staking and generally wrangling the tomato plants and cornflowers, deadheading asters and other flowers. It's our first year with a garden that isn't confined to pots, and the wet, not overly hot summer has been great for growing. We have already raised and harvested radishes; now we have cucumbers, chilis, carrots, and hopefully corn. Lots of flowers; some sad withered strawberries. But plenty of tomatoes. The smell of tomato plants in moist soil on a summer day: one of the good things in this life.
